"Our brother Martin Udsen Overgaard went missing while trekking in Nepal on March 6th. Help us bring him home!
Over the past few days, we’ve managed to piece together the details surrounding Martin Udsen Overgaard’s disappearance. On the morning of March 6, 2017- Martin set out alone for a trek up to the peak of Tsergo Ri in the Himalayas (marked by the red line on the map). He left some clothing at the guest house and said he would return, but he never did. His friends and family have not heard from him since March 2.
The last people to have contact with Martin was a group of trekkers and their guides at the peak around 13:30. These trekkers descended down the mountain using a circumvent route (indicated by the blue arrow), but suspect Martin may have taken a different route down (green arrow). This leaves us with a massive area to search.
It has been over 30 days, but we hold out hope. Others have survived after being lost in the Himalayas for longer and colder periods.
In order to give Martin the best chances for survival, we need to conduct a thorough search of the area with helicopters, search and rescue dogs and a large ground crew trained for extreme terrain. Time is of the essence, so we need to all pull together and bring Martin home safe and sound.
We’re hoping to raise 180.000 danish kroners ($25,000 USD)
50000 dkk ($7200) 4 hour high altitude helicopter search and rescue medic team.
70000 dkk ($10000) Search and rescue dog units for 10 days.
25000 dkk ($3500) Ground search and rescue unit for 10 days.
35000 dkk ($5000) Local support and volunteer coordination.
A helicopter rescue medic team is on standby to go immediately (April 9th)
In addition, a trained rescue crew from Kathmandu will be mobilized to follow up on the helicopter’s discovery mission.
It will take a few days to fly in the search and rescue dog units, but they give us our best chances at tracking Martin. He may be injured and have hidden himself to protect from the extreme climate.
Everyone who knows Martin knows that he is the kindest person you can meet, that he spreads joy wherever he goes. He never judges anyone, but sees and understands you. Listens to you.
We love you Martin and we’re doing our best to bring you home.
– Kristina and Rebecca"
